yes. it was a sad day. incredibly horrible and tragic.far too many lives were lost.several people i know were personally touched in one way or another.
i just read a facebook post written by a friend about 9/11. this part stood out:
"...it is a reminder of the cruelty in the world. I think as a nation we have desensitized ourselves to the consequences of such hatred..."
(the status itself is a great reminder... the poster has an excellent point about each of us and personal responsibility)
but all i could think about while reading it was this:
"cruelty in the world"...
such as our perceived cruelty as we drone strike the citizens of other countries?
"consequences of such hatred
...such as our perceived hatred of the rest of the world as we invade country after country in the name of "freedom" and "liberty"...
?
no. really.
we have become a country that thinks it knows best what should happen in the world and *how* it should happen. we somehow think that we are the experts. we act as if we are so much better and can somehow fix everything. that we should police the world.
(in fact, so many of us know that it is no more than selfish action protecting the political and economic interests of a few in power.)
when, america, when are you going to wake up to that fact?
i wish more people were built to question the news as reported.
to question authority.
to question everything.
oh, you guys do make my head and heart ache sometimes.
the truth is there... but it is an inconvenient and ugly truth.
it is a heavy and burdensome truth (as long as there are so few to acknowledge it).
you say you want change.
but i think you just want a new face upon which you may cast blame.
real change begins with you.
and that takes work. hard work.
and it can be painful at times.
and it can be costly, too.
you may have friends or family who cannot abide questioning the status quo.
who do not want their eyes opened.
loved ones who would rather keep their heads conveniently buried in the sand.
these people may pull back. they may even cut themselves off from you for a time. they may even cut themselves out of your life permanently.

it can be difficult speaking truth or questioning reality when all around people are spouting lies as fact. when all about people equate seeking truth with a vivid imagination.
it can be difficult for a person when their reality is called into question. when all they have known and all they have worked toward is shown to be a lie.
i say this all not to discourage you, but because you need to know that sometimes seeking truth, sometimes doing the right thing, can be a lonely journey.
but, there are happy moments, too. like finding others even more determined than you are to find truth. these people are an inspiration to me. truly.
and there is the inner peace. (peace, as you may have heard it described before, is not total tranquility, but is, rather, that safe and quiet place amongst a storm)
when you seek truth, you gain a sense of inner peace. i am not sure if this is because seeking truth ultimately confirms that which you know in your heart? or if truth is the ultimate balm to a world built on lies? but the inner peace is there. and it grows.
